The first Windy XD update released.

31/12/2013 00:49

The first update to Windy XD was published on the Windows Phone Store today. The update includes some bug fixes, but has also other improvements. Let's take a look.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an error that, in some cases, prevented the app from showing the airport list. The error was related to closed runways at some airports and occurred while the app was reading an airport information from the disk.
  • Fixed a sign error in the initial great circle heading from a current location to a selected airport. This error caused west and east longitudes to exchange places. As a result, for example, a heading of 3 degrees was shown as 357 degrees.
  • Fixed an wrong unit in cloud layer altitude. When metric (aviation) unit system was selected, the cloud layer altitudes should have been shown in feets, instead of meters.
  • Fixed a rounding error in showing the horizontal visibility. Error occurred when either of the metric unit systems was in use.

Improvements

  • Weather phenomena in both METARs and in TAFs are now shown also in a plain English text.
  • Added a PROB change indicator probability reading into the weather page.
  • Added an improved wind decoding and visualization. Both the METAR and TAF decoders are now able to decode "VAR" (a variable wind indicator) and it is shown as a yellow circle surrounding the compass rose. (Note! At this time the TAF decoder cannot recognize the VAR code if its on a change group (From, Prob, Becoming, Temp). For now, the decoder only reads it from the main TAF message.
  • Some minor improvements to overall look of the app.
We'd like to give our sincere thanks for everyone that has given us feedback, reported bugs and other issues or just shown their support in one way or another. Thank you very much!!!

The next update with some major improvements is already on the way. More detailed information about the next update will be released shortly at this site. Don't miss it.
